About Me
I want to help scientists achieve their goals and to bridge gaps in science communication. I was an editor at Cell, and I have a PhD in molecular genetics, a postdoc in epigenetics & stem cell biology, and studied colon and breast cancer as a research associate. I’ve dedicated my career to science and helping scientists share their discoveries effectively. I co-founded Life Science Editors and the Life Science Editors Foundation to support scientists in publishing, writing, and advancing equity and inclusion in the scientific community.

Over the last three decades (!), I’ve worn many hats, from researcher to technical writer to journal editor. My time at Cell taught me the intricacies of scientific publishing. Now, I leverage those skills and behind-the-scenes knowledge to empower others to strengthen their manuscripts, secure funding, and make their discoveries more impactful.

What I Do
As co-director of Life Science Editors Foundation, I oversee volunteer efforts and support underrepresented scientists. As co-CEO of Life Science Editors, I support our team, promote new initiatives, and help scientists worldwide publish papers and win grants.

Before this, I was a scientist and grant writer at Recursion Pharmaceuticals, UCSF, Huntsman Cancer Institute, and Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.

My Services

  • Consulting, editing, and writing science.
  • Workshops and seminars on grant writing, peer review, coping with rejection, “research-adjacent” careers.
  • Office hours
  • Advocating for inclusion, diversity, and equity in STEM.

Testimonials

“I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for all your help over the years. I feel like you are the best colleague I have had (but have never met!). Thank you for all your insights that have really helped my research program. I may not always listen to all your sound advice (to my detriment), but I always value it.”

“Just wanted to tell you that in the end it did work out with NCB. Thanks again for you immediate help when we were struggling.”

I just wanted to take a moment to express how grateful I am to have you on my team. I love exploring diverse areas of science and learning new things with my lab, but I can’t tell you how overwhelmed I feel when it comes to writing manuscripts on new topics. I truly couldn’t have done this without you!”

Let’s Connect
I’m passionate about science, mentoring, building equity and belonging, peer review, and open access. I’d love to connect and explore how I can support your goals.
